Latin Jazz and Salsa

Jan Steele Latin Jazz Group

The Jan Steele Latin Jazz Group is a band specializing in Cuban-influenced music from the 1920’s to the present day. Our repertoire consists of modern salsa, Nuyorican mambo, authentic cha-cha-chá, and Latin jazz, spiced up with classic danzónes, and boléros. Have a look at our tune-list

As a 9-piece, plus the option of our stunning dancer Yani, we are an ideal band for salsa dancing, guaranteed to keep people on the dance-floor whatever their level of expertise. Also the perfect band for open-air events. As a 7-piece, the band is perfect for concerts, smaller club situations, corporate presentations, or background music during a meal or reception before the main event

A special extra feature is Yani Torres, a brilliant and stunning dancer from Havana, an expert in salsa, cha-cha-chá and folk-styles of Cuban dance. Yani can give a specially choreographed dance in each set, and can also give pre-concert lessons in the basic salsa steps

The band consists of two trumpets, alto-sax doubling flute, baritone sax, piano, double-bass, congas, bongos/campana/guiro, timbales/vibes

The personnel of the band has within it both the jazz groups and light-classical trio. So If you want some quieter music at your event, say as you're welcoming your guests, then we can easily provide it

Silvia Rox

Rome-born and now London based artist performer who has been studying and performing Latin American music from an early ag, fusing it with blues, rock and European musical references as eloquently shown in her timely CD tribute to Chilean singer Victor Jara titled "Homenaje a Una Sonrisa"

A distinctive and powerful singer-guitarist & songwriter in her own right (a multi-lingual writer of English, Spanish and Italian works) she has developed a unique style by revisiting the songs of Latin American legendary singers such as the Nueva Cancion movement Violeta Parra and Victor Jara (Chile) and Nueva Trova Silvio Rodriguez (Cuba). A talented and committed songstress whose repertoire embraces the continent's colourful and diverse geographic styles from Mexico to Cuba right down to the Tierra del Fuego!
